Toro Shogun runs on an RTP of 94 percent across both normal play and X-iter modes, which is on the low side compared with some older ELK titles. Volatility is high and the slot can feel quite streaky; I have had long stretches of small avalanches followed by sudden hits when Shogun Mode or a strong bonus finally lands. As someone who has followed Toro from the original release, Toro Shogun feels like a comfortable step sideways rather than a whole new chapter. The connected paylines, avalanches, and expanding grid give it that Gold style energy, while the bull and ninja Matador keep the personality intact. Some sessions can feel very reliant on seeing Toro or hitting Both Ways chains, but the base game rarely feels dull.

My biggest gripe is still that 94 percent RTP, which takes a bit of shine off the long term prospects. That said, the presentation is spot on, the soundtrack fits the Far East setting nicely, and the feature set gives enough variety for longer sessions. For me Toro Shogun sits as a solid option when I fancy some walking wild carnage with a different backdrop.
