Stars of Orion is ELK Studios’ take on an Orion constellation slot that uses their gravity mechanic on a 6x8 grid. Instead of paylines you work with cluster wins made up of 5 or more matching symbols anywhere on the panel. I play it from 20p up to 100 quid a spin, and the highly volatile math means the avalanches can feel streaky but explosive when they connect.

Each winning cluster is removed and triggers gravity, so symbols tumble left and right as well as straight down, opening up new positions and extra clusters during the same paid spin. Those removed symbols charge the Magic Meter on the right side, where you climb through win multipliers and Orion themed features. On top of that you have Free Drops and the full X-iter menu to tailor how aggressively you attack the game.

Theme and Design in Stars of Orion

The action in Stars of Orion plays out in front of a Stonehenge style stone circle with Orion shining overhead in a dark sky. You get a strong Druidic vibe from the standing stones and monoliths, while the symbol set feels more arcade like, with bright gems and neon animals that almost clash with the backdrop. It looks slightly odd at first, but the animations and sound effects tie it together once the game starts flowing.

Stars of Orion Symbols and Paytable

Symbol wise, Stars of Orion splits things into low and high pays. The cheaper symbols are gems in purple, green, blue and red, while the premiums are a bird, a wolf, a deer and a golden lucky seven. You need at least 5 matching symbols in a cluster to get paid, and clusters of 15 or more can reach 2.5x to 4x for lows and up to 200x your stake for the top seven.

There is a golden W wild that substitutes for all regular symbols and, if you ever manage a full cluster of wilds, it pays the same as the best premium. Golden B symbols are scatters and the red framed B symbols are super scatters. The paytable steps up nicely as cluster size increases, but in practice the real money comes when big clusters line up with a Magic Meter multiplier and extra wilds on screen.

Bonus Features in Stars of Orion

The whole engine in Stars of Orion leans on avalanches and the gravity mechanic. Every time I land a winning cluster those symbols vanish, then the remaining tiles slide down and sideways into the lowest available spots. As long as new wins appear the avalanche keeps going. During these cascades you can land blue framed Super Symbols which, when used in a win, upgrade all connected winning symbols to the highest paying symbol in that combined cluster.

All removed winning symbols feed the Magic Meter, and this is where the slot really opens up. As you fill it, you step through win multipliers from x2 right up to x64, and you also trigger Magic Features. Symbol Swap can rearrange adjacent tiles or even turn them wild to force a cluster. Then you have Orion’s Belt, Club, Shield and the full Orion, dropping 3, 6, 8 or 13 wilds in constellation shapes that can completely change a screen.

Three scatters in view award 10 Free Drops, and in this bonus the Magic Meter does not reset between spins, which is where I have seen the game go mad. Super scatters with red frames trigger Super Free Drops, again with 10 spins but with a higher frequency of Super Symbols. If you prefer to buy features, the X-iter panel lets you pay for guaranteed wins, more Super Symbols, extra Symbol Swaps, regular bonus entry or straight into the super bonus.

RTP, Volatility and Potential in Stars of Orion

On the numbers side Stars of Orion runs on a 95 percent RTP, which is a bit under older ELK releases but standard for this gravity range. Volatility is very high, and from my sessions you can go a string of spins with only small clusters, then hit a single bonus that goes off thanks to a high Magic Meter multiplier. Official max win is 10,000 times your stake, reachable when big clusters and high multipliers collide.

Stars of Orion Slot Verdict

Stars of Orion did not grab me straight away. The contrast between the ancient stone circle and the bright, almost sci fi symbols looked odd, and early sessions felt quite swingy. Once I stuck with it and saw how the cluster pays, gravity mechanic, Super Symbols and Magic Meter all feed into each other, the gameplay started to shine. Compared with earlier gravity slots, the cluster system feels less frustrating than watching big symbols die on late reels.

For me, Stars of Orion suits players who enjoy feature rich cluster games and are comfortable riding high volatility in pursuit of big spike wins. The lower RTP is a trade off, but the way multipliers, Orion shaped wild drops and persistent Free Drops meters interact gives the slot serious punch. When everything comes together it really does feel like a well greased machine, and that is when this constellation themed grid can light up your balance.
