Free drops are where Katmandu Gold can really catch fire. Three or more bonus symbols in one drop sequence award 10, 15, 20 or 25 free drops for 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters. You still get Avalanches and row expansion, but now there is a global win multiplier that starts at 1x. Special bonus symbols marked with an X increase that multiplier by one each time they land, and it does not reset between free drops. Katmandu Gold: Slot Verdict – Personal Take

From my perspective, Katmandu Gold shows there is still plenty of gas in the Gold series engine. The Himalayan setting gives it a distinct flavour, while the design team has pushed the mechanics rather than resting on the Ecuador or Voodoo templates. Building up to the eighth row, knowing a hidden ninth can appear if Ice Climbers co operate, adds a nice extra layer of tension on any promising sequence.

In practice the slot can go through stretches of quiet spins, which is expected from a high volatility game using this type of Avalanche model. The flip side is that a single good drop can explode into several, with Big Symbols, Expanding Wins and Ice Climbers chaining together and pulling wins from nowhere. When you then throw a climbing multiplier on top in free drops, the game steps up several gears very quickly.

As a regular bonus buyer I see the 100x entry as fairly standard for this kind of setup, while the 500x Super version needs handling with care and a disciplined bankroll. I tend to grind base game for organic bonuses and reserve the Super buy for sessions where I am happy to take heavy swings. If you like ELK's style of piling on rows and win ways while chasing chunky multipliers, Katmandu Gold is one of their more satisfying outings.
